At The Capitol
CCA On Guard For
Introduction of Construction Defects Legation
It appears
increasingly likely that House and Senate Democratic leaders are poised to introduce
construction defects legislation possibly under
the guise of a bill innocuously titled Homeowner Protection Act.
CCA's lobby team believes Senate Majority Leader John Morse (D- Colorado
Springs) and House Assistant Majority Leader Andy Kerr (D-Lakewood) may
team up to sponsor this year's bill.
While their 11th hour pre-caucus strategy appears to have generated
little, if any, of the intended interest at last night's Democratic
Caucuses, we urge all CCA members to review the following two links:
Watch the Colorado Democratic Caucus Message on YouTube - Click here.
PDF Resolution to print and introduce at caucus - Click here.
CCA's lobby team is monitoring closely construction defects-related
legislative developments and will continue making every effort to persuade
Democratic leaders to abandon or substantially modify their approach.
Stay tuned.
Two Other Significant Actions this
week:

authorizing a special district that provides such services to levy a
voter-approved sales tax and to join a regional transportation authority.

Representative Buffie McFayden
(D-Pueblo) and Senator Dan Gibbs (D-Silverthorne)

SB 10-097:

rule charter commission is created for the purpose of
proposing a home rule charter.

Getting The Most Out Of Training And Team Building
Are you preparing your organization and your people for the future?
Are you helping them develop the skills they will need to keep your company
competitive? Among US organizations alone, over tens of billions of dollars
are spent on employee training and development each year. Studies of
hundreds of corporations conducted by the American Society of Training and
Development showed a distinct correlation between training expenditures per
employee and bottom-line profits. Companies that spend the most on training
generally have the highest sales per employee and the highest net profits. Click

Emissions
Corner
Why is the EPA
picking on us? A look at why the Off-Road Construction Industry is under such pressure to
reduce emissions
by Dr. Michael J. Readey
Aeris Analytics LLC
Number 10
March 18, 2010
It seems like the
off-highway equipment and construction industry are constantly bombarded
with new environmental regulations.
At least when it comes to air quality, is the EPA picking on our
industry in particular? In this week’s Emission Corner, we examine the
current state of pollutant emissions and where those emissions come
from. As it turns out, while our industry has reduced our collective
emissions profile significantly over the last several years, we are still
major sources of NOx and particulates, making us ideal targets for more
aggressive regulation. Click

Near Misses
One of the key words in accident prevention is “anticipate”. By
anticipating what could happen, it is possible to take safety steps to
prevent an accident. One of the steps we can take is to investigate
all near miss accidents. We should always be on the lookout for unsafe
practices and for accidents that do not result in injury. Click

in English and Spanish on near misses from our friends at www.Toolbox.com.
